US official: Iran's threats will further isolate it
Brian Hook, US special envoy on Iran
US Special Envoy for Iran Brian Hook said on Friday that the threats posed by Tehran will only lead to further isolation, after Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that his country may transfer the battle outside its borders.
Hook added to reporters in a statement that the United States also imposed sanctions on a leader of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards at the rank of Brigadier General in the latest step of his country against Iran.
US Special Envoy to Iran, Brian Hook, has announced that the United States has included the commander in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Major General Hassan Shafarbor, on its sanctions list for his "role in suppressing demonstrations" in his country.
Hook said during a press conference, according to the American "Al-Hurra" channel, Friday evening, that "Shafarbor is involved in committing grave violations against the demonstrators, and he is responsible for the suppression of 148 Iranians in November 2019."
Hook noted that the US administration's decision to impose sanctions on Shafarbor was based on information obtained "from Iranian citizens who provided us with more than 88,000 testimonies (indicating a violation of human rights)", adding that the US administration viewed a video showing the bodies of Iranian protesters in trucks.
He stressed that the sanctions on Iran will continue unless they change their policy in the region and stop their support for terrorism, explaining that the US sanctions on Iran are very effective and have affected the economic situation in this country.
Hook added that Europe has begun to respond to Iranian blackmail in the nuclear file, noting that the administration of his country has received information on the leaders of the Iranian regime responsible for the repression, and has succeeded in making the price prohibitive for the Iranian regime and whoever helps it.
Speaking about London's decision to classify Hezbollah as a terrorist, Hook said, stressing that Iran's continued threat to the world will increase its isolation, Iran's future will be decided by the Iranian people, and those responsible for violations against the people will be held accountable.
